5 Beauty Pageant Tips from Mandy Liang Miss Chinese Toronto

Have you ever dreamed of participating in a beauty pageant? When I was a little girl, I always hoped to take part in beauty pageants. After a lot of hard work and dedication I achieved my goal. In 2013, I was crowned Miss Chinese Toronto. I have learned so much in my beauty pageant days and will be sharing my best tips to any girl hoping to take part in the beauty pageant experience.

Practice makes perfect

Taking part in beauty pageant takes a whole lot of practice. Whether it’s practicing your skill, practicing answering questions or practicing your walk. I’d recommend hiring a coach if you want to take yourself to the next level in beauty pageants. Coaches have experience in the world of pageants and know what the judges are looking for. They can help you refine your skills and be the best contestant you can be. You have to be willing to put in a lot of your time into practice.

Confidence is key

Being confident in everything you do will make you memorable and make you shine as a contestant. Even if you make a mistake, keep smiling. If you are a shy or nervous person, I’d recommend putting even more time into practicing and preparation. That way you will feel more confident in what you are doing even under pressure.

Research

Beauty pageants aren’t something to dive into with no thought. The first step is taking a look at pageants in your area. First you can observe a pageant to see what is required and then you can sign yourself up. These are the perfect opportunity to start small and work your way up. Participating in a local pageant will show you what to expect and give you experience.

Self-Discpline

Pageants are challenging and require self-discipline. Beauty pageants helped me work on having a healthier lifestyle. I want to be in the best of shape physically and mentally before participating in beauty pageants. This means getting enough sleep, eating properly, exercising and knowing how to relieve your stress. My favourite way to feel better in a stressful situation is to focus on my breathing. Find out what stress-relief method is best for you, because there’s a high chance you will feel stress at some point during beauty pageants.

Have fun

It might sound cheesy, but just have fun with it. Pageants aren’t all about winning. For me, pageants are about the experience, the people you meet and taking part in my community. Enjoy your pageant experience and treasure the people you meet along the way. I made amazing friends in my pageants days.

Mandy Liang Miss Chinese Toronto

How did Mandy Liang end up competing for Miss Chinese Toronto 2013?

Throughout her childhood, Mandy never competed in pageants. It was only with the encouragement of her family and friends she decided to give it a shot. They knew Mandy had a good chance to win since she was both pretty, smart, and talented. In the eyes of Mandy Liang’s family, they knew that she was the perfect fit for a pageant but she wasn’t so sure about that. Before she could start, she would first need to practice her pageant walk, get informed on the new style trends and what her talent would be.

When Mandy Liang Miss Chinese Toronto decided to sign up for the pageant, her friends and family were ecstatic on this decision. Mandy Liang seeked out former pageant competitors in order to receive as much advice as possible before getting herself into something unfamiliar. The first tip they gave her was to seek out a pageant coach in order for them to prepare her for what was coming up. The coach gave her tips on:

  • How to act: before and during the pageant, you must never show how nervous you are and you must never be unpleasant to be around.
  • How to walk: walking the runway is something that is never easy for first time pageant competitors. It tales a lot of practice and good balance to have the perfect walk. It takes a lot of confidence from an individual to walk on the runway and thankfully this was something that Mandy Liang developed.
  • How to dress: it is very important to make sure you stick with the latest fashion trends. Having a neutral dress is suggested for the interview when you sign up, a dark bikini is always suggested and the dress really depends on what colours suit you and on the latest fashion trends.

A pageant is definitely not for everybody but Mandy Liang Miss Chinese Toronto actually enjoyed herself. She learnt a lot about who she is, how to deal with pressure and how mean people can be in order to get what they want or be successful. The pageant industry takes a lot of practice and patience and not everybody has this.
